The Town of Brooklyn is seeking a dependable, community-minded individual to fill the position of Recycle Center Attendant. This role is vital to maintaining our community's environmental sustainability, ensuring that residents can safely and efficiently dispose of recyclable materials and waste.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Service: Greet residents, verify residency or permits, and guide them to the appropriate disposal bins or areas.
  • Site Maintenance: Keep the recycling center clean, organized, and free of debris or hazards.
  • Material Sorting: Monitor incoming materials to ensure proper sorting, prevent contamination, and reject non-acceptable items.
  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure all safety protocols, town ordinances, and environmental regulations are followed by visitors.
  • Assistance: Help residents who may need assistance unloading materials when necessary.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to handle occasional firm interactions regarding non-compliant materials.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and lift/move up to 50 lbs in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Reliability: Strong work ethic with a track record of punctuality and dependability.
  • Background Check: Must pass a standard background check prior to employment.

 

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: November through May hours are Monday 7:30-10:30, Saturdays 7:30–11:30; May through October are Mondays 7:30–11:30 and Saturdays 7:30-1:30.
  • Pay Rate: Hourly rate is competitive and commensurate with experience.
